Best colostrum supplements: an honest buyer's guide

Colostrum is one of the fastest-growing supplements in wellness, and the shelf is crowded. Here is how to actually choose one, the criteria that matter, and an honest comparison of the top brands, including where each one wins.

By Heather Young, co-founder of magic milk. Updated July 2026.

Full transparency: we make one of the products on this list (magic milk). We have tried to keep this fair and to tell you plainly where other brands beat us. Colostrum is a real category with real, differentiated players, and the right pick depends on what you want out of it.

Colostrum is the first milk a cow produces in the 48 hours after calving. Its headline component is immunoglobulins (antibodies): they make up roughly 70 to 80% of colostrum's protein, and IgG alone accounts for 85 to 95% of them, according to a 2021 review in the journal Animals. If you want the full primer first, start with what colostrum is.

How to choose a colostrum supplement

Sourcing

Grass-fed and a clearly stated country of origin. Grass-fed New Zealand is widely considered the gold standard.

Third-party testing

An outside lab should verify what is in the tub. Look for published results, not just a claim.

Format and taste

Capsules, unflavored powder, or a flavored drink. The best colostrum is the one you will actually take every day, so taste is a feature, not an afterthought.

Collagen

Some colostrums add collagen so one scoop replaces two products. Check the grams if that matters to you.

Sugar and ingredients

A short, readable label. If flavored, check the sugar. Watch for long ingredient lists and proprietary blends.

Ethics

A Calf-First Promise (calves are fed first, only surplus is collected) is the humane standard.

Where magic milk fits (and where it does not)

We built magic milk for the people who quit unflavored colostrum because they could not stand the ritual. Ours is grass-fed New Zealand colostrum plus 4g of collagen in a chocolate milk that genuinely tastes like childhood, 45 calories, 4g protein, and 3g sugar per serving, third-party tested by EuroFins.

Pick magic milk if you want a colostrum you will actually enjoy every day, you like getting colostrum and collagen in one scoop, or you are buying for kids and picky drinkers.

Pick something else if you want the most concentrated, clinical, single-ingredient colostrum (ARMRA is built for that) or a plain unflavored powder with nothing added (Cowboy Colostrum and Transparent Labs do this well). Honest is better than universal.
